The collective was founded in 2016 and currently counts 22 members within its ranks. The group features writers of all different kinds, from short-story authors, poets, as well as screen/playwrights.
This will be their first public reading as a group, though several members have performed throughout the city at various open mic nights, as well as regular reading series such as Strangers on a Train.
Ampersand Writers Collective Mission:
Much like our namesake serves to connect parts of speech, Ampersand Writers Collective strives to connect writers and literary aficionados from all walks of life. Ampersand is open to writers of any background--from published authors, to those only beginning to explore expressing themselves through written word--all are welcome to join. While events and meetings are coordinated by facilitators, Ampersand does not have a president or lead members. Ampersand is a cooperative endeavour where each member has equal say and equal opportunity to lead events. Ampersand Writers Collective is an inclusive group that welcomes members from all backgrounds, regardless of ancestry, gender, or sexual orientation. Those who do not ascribe to this idea, are kindly asked to withhold from participating with the group. We also acknowledge that creating an environment of inclusivity can be an ongoing challenge and welcome any members who feel underrepresented or marginalized, to come forward so that the proper actions can be taken to correct any issues
